A New Effort to Decipher Gaps Curtailing Pharmacies Expansion

XiFin, Inc., a leader in revenue cycle management (RCM) and billing solutions enhanced with embedded artificial intelligence (AI), has officially announced the launch of its 2026 Pharmacy Transformation Outlook Survey.

According to certain reports, this particular study, marking the 3rd edition of the given survey, will look to consult more than 1,000 respondents, leveraging their opinion to uncover growth areas, identify pathways for pharmacists to bridge chronic care needs, transform pharmacies into essential health and wellness hubs, as well as better understand the opportunities and challenges that prop up whenever pharmacists try to expand their services.

The exercise in question markedly builds upon 2025 Pharmacy Transformation Outlook Survey, where 63% of respondents indicated that more clinical services covered under the medical, rather than pharmacy benefit, can go on to generate greater amount of revenue for pharmacies.

“We are excited to hear directly from America’s unsung heroes during American Pharmacists Month, as pharmacists continue to transform healthcare for millions of Americans,” said David Pope, PharmD, Chief Pharmacy Officer at XiFin. “Pharmacists are trusted healthcare providers who deliver critical clinical services every day, advancing preventive care, acute illness, chronic condition management, and more. Their perspectives are vital to shaping the future of pharmacy, and the insights they share through this survey will help ensure pharmacists’ role in patient care will continue to grow.”

Talk about this 2025 edition on a slightly deeper level, we begin from how, in 2025, 72% of respondents ranked an expanded role for pharmacists to fill care gaps, including chronic condition management, as the #1 growth opportunity. Furthermore, 34% of respondents would express optimism regarding the growing role of pharmacists and potential associated with improved patient care, access, and equity.

Next up, the survey discovered that artificial intelligence (AI), technology, automation, and data analytics are among the technologies most ready to facilitate automate tasks and optimize workflows, an effort geared towards improving both operational efficiency and patient experience.

Another detail worth a mention is rooted in how 63% of respondents reported that reimbursement was a barrier to expansion, whereas on the other hand, 55% said medical billing capabilities were a big barrier.

The survey in question also revealed that pharmacies plan to expand, within the next 12 to 36 months, into specialty drug growth categories, including infertility, hepatitis C, and sleep disorders.

“As demand for clinical services accelerates in 2026, success will hinge on the ability to harness AI and advanced technology. These innovations empower pharmacists to elevate patient care, streamline workflows, and strengthen financial performance,” said Dr. Pope. “During American Pharmacists Month, we are reminded to celebrate the essential role of pharmacists and reaffirm our commitment to offer solutions that empower them to do more good for the communities they serve.”
