Supporting a Drive to Simplify the Complexities of Clinical Documentation

Freed, an AI clinician assistant designed to reduce the burdens of medical documentation, has successfully raised a sum of $30 million in Series A funding.

Led by Sequoia Capital, the stated round saw further participation from the likes of Scale Venture Partners, Daniel Gross, Gokul Rajaram, and Ted Zagat, bringing Freed’s total funding to $34 million.

To understand the significance of such a development, though, we must take into account how clinicians of today spend a staggering amount of time just managing their documentation workload, with many spending as much as 19 hours per week on paperwork and administration. This has caused more than 50% of physicians to report symptoms of burnout, and one-third of primary, as well as acute care, providers to consider leaving the profession altogether.

In case that wasn’t bad enough, going by a recent report by the AAMC, the U.S. is also projected to face a shortage of 86,000 physicians by the year 2036.

Against that, Freed leverages AI to automate documentation and reduce administrative friction. You see, the company’s proprietary AI scribe product has consistently shown to automate the notetaking process, saving clinicians about 2 hours per day.

For better understanding, since its launch in 2023, Freed has saved clinicians over 2.5 million cumulative hours. Not just that, the company has also expanded its user base to more than 17,000 paying customers across 96 specialties.

“Freed was built as a love letter to clinicians—starting with my wife, a family physician,” said Erez Druk, Co-Founder and CEO of Freed. “My wife and her fellow clinicians dedicate their careers to caring for others, and they deserve to have a company that dedicates itself to caring for them. They deserve to live balanced lives that allow them to recharge.”

Freed also took this opportunity to launch new AI-powered and other advanced features that, on their part, can extend capabilities beyond note writing so to accelerate its evolution into a comprehensive AI clinician assistant.

Talk about these capabilities on a slightly deeper level, they include specialty-specific notes, notes that are tailored and optimized for different clinical areas

Next up, we have a custom template builder, which provides you with personalized documentation that adapts to each clinician’s personal preferences.

Another detail worth a mention here is rooted in the company’s new pre-charging facility. The idea behind such a facility is to pack together AI-generated patient summaries, and at the same time, provide follow-ups for preparing clinicians before patient visits.

Joining that would be the availability of EHR integration via browser extension.

“What drew me to Freed in the beginning was the relentless focus on solving a real, urgent problem for clinicians,” said Yonatan Loewidt, Freed Founding Investor and Board Member. “Watching the early prototypes we built from scratch evolve into a tool that is now used and loved by thousands of clinicians is incredibly rewarding. Freed is more than a product—it’s a movement to help clinicians reclaim valuable time in their day-to-day lives.”

Founded in 2023, Freed’s rise up the ranks stems from eliminating the burdens of medical documentation, all while giving clinicians their time back to help them lead more balanced, fulfilling, and professional lives. The company’s excellence in what it does can also be understood once you consider that Freed is currently trusted by more than 17,000 clinicians.
